Touch-A-Truck

Dyersburg State Community College’s (DSCC’s) Division of Continuing Education will host a Touch-A-Truck event for children Saturday, Sept. 30.

The event, taking place from 9 a.m. – noon on the E.H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium parking lot on the Dyersburg campus, is designed to provide an educational event for families, with opportunities for children to explore and touch a semi-truck, a dump truck, an Air Evac helicopter, a fire truck, a garbage truck, a police car, a wrecker, tractors and more. Popcorn and drinks will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

Ida Mae Theus Mays Scholarship Banquet

The 15th Annual Memorial Scholarship and Honor Celebration to benefit the Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) Ida Mae Theus-Mays Memorial Scholarship Fund has been set for Saturday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m., at the DoubleTree Hotel in Jackson, Tennessee.  

This annual event celebrates the memory of Ida Mae Theus-Mays, a devout believer and supporter of education and the founder of Faith Deliverance Apostolic Church. The Ida Mae Theus-Mays Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to provide an education for second-year full-time students at DSCC. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must have and maintain a minimum 2.5 grade-point average, be active in student life activities at DSCC, and an active member of a Christian-centered church. The trustees of Faith Deliverance Apostolic Church make the selection in coordination with DSCC financial aid guidelines.

Estella Mayhue-Greer, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Mid-South Food Bank, will serve as the guest speaker during the event. Mayhue-Greer began her career at the Mid-South Food Bank in 1996 as the agency relations director and later was promoted to director of programs in 2002. In 2004, she became senior vice president and chief operating officer (COO). Mayhue-Greer started the Kids Café and the Food for Kids BackPack Programs to address childhood hunger. She also began the Mobile Pantry Program to increase distribution of food to rural counties and increased both the quality and quantity of food distributed to partner agencies to fight hunger in the Mid-South Food Bank’s 31-county service area.

Prior to joining the Mid-South Food Bank, Mayhue-Greer was a lecturer at Christian Brothers University while maintaining her own public relations and marketing firm. Before that, she was an adjunct instructor at the University of Memphis, a partner in JEL Communications, and worked in marketing and public relations with the City of Memphis, Methodist Health Systems and the Regional Medical Center. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication from the University of Memphis.

Mayhue-Greer is a graduate of Leadership Tennessee Class IV and Leadership Memphis. She is active in Kiwanis Club of Memphis; Justice, Unity, Generosity, Service International, Memphis Chapter; and The Links, Memphis Chapter. She currently serves on the Trezevant Manor board of directors, The University of Tennessee Health Science Center Community Advisory Board and was a member of Mayor Jim Strickland’s Transition Team. She received the 2015 Memphis City Council Humanitarian Award. She was named one of Memphis Business Journal’s “Super Women in Business” in 2015, a “Woman of Courage” by Dress for Success, “Corporate Woman of Excellence” by Grace Magazine in 2013 and "50 Women Who Make A Difference" in 2007. She was featured in Memphis Magazine's “Who's Who in Memphis” and in Memphis Business Quarterly as a Power Player.

Annual Alumni Dinner, Meeting and Silent Auction

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) will host its Annual Alumni Dinner Meeting and Silent Auction Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. DSCC alumni and their guests are invited to enjoy a catered dinner on the Student Center Terrace on the Dyersburg campus with special entertainment and a silent auction to benefit the DSCC Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
