Brock McGuire Concert

The Brock McGuire Band will perform live at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County Tuesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. inside the Baptist Memorial Health Care Academic Building Auditorium. This free event is open to the public and is sponsored by the DSCC International Studies Program.

Visiting the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center all the way from Ireland, the Brock McGuire Band’s music is steeped in tradition with a tight, tenacious blend of instruments emphasizing mostly Irish music with a touch of American Old Timey, Bluegrass, French Canadian and other Celtic traditions.

The band is fronted by Moving Cloud founding members Paul Brock and Manus McGuire, two of Ireland’s most celebrated traditional musicians. Performing with Brock and McGuire are Dublin-based Garry O’Meara, a brilliant banjo and mandolin player and vocalist, and Denis Carey, an acclaimed pianist, composer and arranger.

Brock McGuire Band’s new CD collaboration “Green Grass Blue Grass” with 14-time Grammy Award Winner Ricky Skaggs has been hailed as “A Masterpiece” by American music critic Bill Margeson. More information about the band can be found at www.brockmcguireband.com.

Irish Happy Hour Fundraiser

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) Foundation will host an Irish Happy Hour Fundraiser Tuesday, March 14, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County inside the commons area of the Learning Resource Center.

Guests will enjoy a variety of beverages and pub food. Members of the Brock McGuire Irish Band will be present to greet attendees. Proceeds will benefit the DSCC Tipton County Annual Fund to support student scholarships and programs at the College.

Tickets to the fundraiser event cost $30 each and must be purchased in advance. To purchase tickets call 731-286-3345 or email feith@dscc.edu.

Cindy Scott Art Reception

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) has announced an art exhibit featuring paintings by artist Cindy Scott is currently on display at the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County. The paintings will be on display through April 17 throughout the Ripley Power and Light Lobby inside the Learning Resource Center, Student Center and Tipton County Public Library. A reception will be held at this location March 13 from 6:30-8 p.m.

Scott began her art career at Smith and Nephew as a freelance medical illustrator. For the past 26 years, she has been illustrating surgical techniques for various medical companies. In her free time, she enjoys painting and drawing with acrylics, pastels, colored pencils and watercolor pencils. Being from southern Louisiana, Scott enjoys painting swamps, magnolias, pelicans, crabs and beaches. She won first and second place in the 2016 Eagle Fest Art Competition at Reelfoot Lake with her paintings of ‘Low Water Perch’ and ‘Knees of Cypress.’ Inspired by her love for her country, one of her most recent creations, ‘American Farmer,’ won an award for best creativity in the 2016 Tipton County Art Exhibit ‘Local Color.’ Scott has also created many commissioned pieces over the years, including pet portraits, scenes from family vacations and hunting trips, old homesteads, and most recently a firefighter answering the call of duty.
