Surgical Technology, A.A.S.
The Surgical Technology AAS prepares you to be a member of the operating team during surgical procedures. As a member of the allied health professionals, you will be a part of an integral team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients in a variety of settings such as medical offices, out-patient clinics, and the operating room. This individual works under the supervision of a surgeon to ensure that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Students receive a combination of classroom study, practice in the campus laboratory, and clinical practice experiences in the surgery department of local hospitals.
How to get started. To be eligible for the Surgical Technology Program at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC), you must first apply to and gain full admission status to the college if you are not currently enrolled. Once you have gained full admission, all transcripts must be turned in to Admissions and Records.
Applications will be reviewed after the application deadline date. Applicants who have met admission criteria will be reviewed and sent forth to the admissions process. The admissions process follows a point system to determine which applicants are admitted into the program. Please see the information packet for more details about the admissions process. Once enrolled in the Surgical Technology Program, all students will be required to make satisfactory progress in both surgical technology classes and any general education courses required in order to continue enrollment.
