Dyer County Promise Scholarship

The Dyer County Promise Scholarship is funded by the Dyersburg City and Dyer County governments in an effort to provide opportunity for the residents of Dyer County to obtain a higher education at Dyersburg State Community College or the Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Newbern. Some of the goals of this commitment are to educate tomorrow’s leaders, create a competitive workforce in Dyer County, and to attract and fill current high skilled, high paying jobs.

Eligibility requirements are outlined below.

To receive a maximum scholarship of $675 per year for four semesters to attend Dyersburg State Community College, all Dyer County recipients must:

  • Have been a resident of Dyer County for the twelve months before enrollment at Dyersburg State Community College or the Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Newbern or twelve months prior to passing the GED.
  • Have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). May 1 is the priority deadline for receipt by Dyersburg State.
  • Have completed high school with a regular diploma or graduated from an approved Tennessee home school program or passed the GED within the immediate past twelve (12) months.
  • Enroll at Dyersburg State Community College the first semester following high school graduation (summer excluded).
  • Maintain continuous enrollment.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student (at least 12 semester hours of college-level or Learning Support classes.)
  • Exhaust all other federal, state, and local grant or scholarship aid before being considered for the Promise Scholarship.
  • Reapply each academic year by completing the FAFSA.
  • Successfully complete a minimum of 9 semester hours with a 2.0 gpa at the end of the first semester with grades of A, B, C, D, or P. Successfully complete a minimum of 24 semester hours with a 2.0 gpa at the end of the second semester with grades of A, B, C, D, or P. Successfully complete a minimum of 36 semester hours with a 2.0 gpa at the end of the third semester with grades of A, B, C, D, or P.

The Dyer County Promise Scholarship Program is funded by the Dyer County Legislative Body and the Dyersburg
Board of Mayor and Aldermen on a year-to-year basis and the amount of the scholarship is based on the availability
of funds. Continuation of the scholarship is contingent upon funding by Dyersburg City and Dyer County
governments.
