Eagles and Lady Eagles soar

Basketball and cheerleading awards presented

Members of the 2011-12 Dyersburg State Community College Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball teams, the DSCC cheerleaders, their families and friend, along with members of the DSCC staff, gathered in the Student Center on the Dyersburg campus for the annual end of season awards presentation ceremony on April 25.

Awards were presented to athletes who have distinguished themselves on the court, on the field, on the campus and in the classroom.

The DSCC Dean of Student Services Choice Award, established to recognize exemplary displays of sportsmanship, academic achievement and dedication to campus service, was presented to women’s basketball team member Sharonda Brabson of Madison, men’s basketball team member William Jake Martin of Adamsville and Brandi Lowery of Dyersburg for cheerleading.

Student-athletes from each sport with the highest grade point average (GPA) were recognized.  They are Caleb Woods of Selmer for men’s basketball, Sharonda Brabson for women’s basketball and Gabrielle Spivey of Dyersburg for cheerleading. These players’ names will be engraved on the large plaque displayed in the E.H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium on the Dyersburg campus.

Babson and Spivey were named Scholar-Athletes. Each had earned a 3.0 GPA or higher for the Fall 2011 semester and was presented a certificate of accomplishment.

Men’s Basketball:

Most Rebounds and Most Blocked shots – Brandon Jones of Osceola, AR

Highest Three-point Field Goal Percentage – Caleb Woods of Selmer    

Sportsmanship – Jake Martin of Adamsville

Most Charges Taken - Jasmine Washington of Memphis

Most Improved Players – Marty Wilkerson of Memphis and Chris Burrow of Cordova

Most Assists and Most Steals - Ronnie Mitchell of Dyersburg

 

Women’s Basketball:

Leading Scorer and Highest Free Throw Percentage – Jasmine Duke of Pulaski

Leading Rebounder and Most Blocks and Highest Overall Field Goal Percentage – Sharonda Brabson of Madison

Highest Three-point Field Goal Percentage, Most Assists, Most Steals and – Chasity Hamilton of Memphis

Team Management Award – Tenisha Allen of Dyersburg

The DSCC women’s basketball team is coached by Rian Puckett.  Alan Barnett coaches the men’s basketball team and serves as athletic director for DSCC.
