Post 9/11 GI Bill®

Benefits and Eligibility

The Post-9/11 GI Bill® is for individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® . The Post-9/11 GI Bill® will become effective for training on or after August 1, 2009.

For approved programs, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides up to 36 months of education benefits.

If your release from active duty was before January 1, 2013, there is a 15-year time limitation for use of benefits. For individuals whose last discharge date is on or after January 1, 2013, the time limitation has been removed.

The following payments may be available:

• Monthly housing allowance -- This payment is only available for students who are enrolled in 7 or more semester hours at DSCC. Also, the standard MHA rate is only payable if the studnet is attending at least one hour of resident classes. If the studnet is enrolled full time in all online classes then the MHA rate is half of the national average. • Annual books and supplies stipend
• One-time rural benefit payment

Some Service members may also transfer unused GIBill® benefits to their dependents.
