Federal Student Loan Instructions
1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and include the DSCC School Code 006835.
- You must be accepted for regular admission to the college. Call the Office of Admissions and Records at 731-286-3350 if you have questions concerning admission to the college. Please note you must maintain enrollment in at least six credit hours each semester to be considered eligible for a federal direct student loan. If you cease to be at least a half-time student for six months, repayment will begin on your federal direct student loans.
2. Complete online Federal Direct STudent Loan entrance counseling and complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN).
- Online Federal Direct Student Loan counseling will be required once for the duration of your attendance at DSCC and the MPN will only be required once every ten years. DSCC will receive your MPN and loan counseling electronically by the next business day following your submission.
To complete the Federal Direct Student Loan Entrance Counseling:
- Go to the Federal Direct Student Loan Entrance Counseling Website
- Click the blue "Log in to Start" button beside "I am an Undergraduate Student"
- Input your FSA ID Username or Email Address and your FSA ID password and click to log in
- Accept the terms
- Click "Continue" at the bottom of the page

Choose Tennessee and Dyersburg State Community College in the drop down box to notify our school
- Click "Continue" at the bottom of the page
- Click "Start"
- Continue to read and answer the questions until you get to the end
To complete the Master Promissory Note:
- Go to the Federal Direct Student Loan Master Promissory Note Website
- Click the blue "Log in to Start" button beside "I am an Undergraduate Student"
- Input your FSA ID username or E-mail Address and your FSA ID password and click to log in
- Accept the terms
- Input the information that it asks until you reach the end to submit
- A student may request to complete a paper Master Promissory Note (MPN). Students and/or Parents can download a paper Master Promissory Note by following the links below:
- If a student does not have access to a computer, this form may also be obtained by visiting a OneStop Center at any DSCC location, or by contacting the Office of Financial Aid at financialaid@dscc.edu or 731-286-3244.
3. Complete the Federal Direct Student Loan Request Form and submit it online.
- Login to MyDSCC
- Click on the Student Tab
- Go to Student Quick Links on right hand side and click on “Loan Request Form”
- Click on “Complete This Form”
- Fill in blanks on the form
- Select "Next"
- Electronically sign form and submit
You may view and monitor your Federal Direct Student Loan balances at https://studentaid.gov/h/manage-loans. It is important to maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date information regarding your Federal Direct Student Loans.
Before borrowing, consider your monthly repayment obligation in relation to your prospective income upon graduation or leaving school. You may view your repayment options at https://studentaid.gov/loan-simulator/
You should explore all potential sources of financial aid before requesting a Federal Direct Student Loan, and only borrow the amount needed for successful completion of your program.

If you decide to cancel this Federal Direct Student Loan, please notify us in writing or by email. You can cancel all of or a portion of a Federal Direct Student Loan disbursement within 120 days of the date your Federal Direct Student Loan funds have been paid out. If you choose to cancel the amount disbursed, you will return the money you received, and you will not be charged interest or fees.
Federal Parent PLUS Loans are loans taken out by eligible parents of eligible dependent undergraduate students, enrolled at least half-time, to help pay for their child’s college expenses. The amount of the Federal Parent PLUS Loan is limited to the overall cost of attendance of the student, less any other expected financial aid. Parents are responsible for repaying Federal Parent PLUS loans.
A few of the basic eligibility factors for borrowing Federal Parent PLUS Loans include:
- An established financial need
- US. citizenship (or eligible non-citizenship)
- A credit check
- Filling out the FAFSA®
- A valid Social Security number
To take out a Federal Parent PLUS Loan for the first time, you must complete a Federal Parent PLUS Loan Application and Master Promissory Note (MPN) at www.studentaid.gov. A parent may request to complete a paper Master Promissory Note (MPN). Parents can download a paper Master Promissory Note by following the link below:
