DSCC’s Associate of Applied Sciences degree program in Health Sciences provides a pathway for students who are currently enrolled in or have completed a certificate-level program in a Health Sciences discipline from any accredited community or technical college, or who are currently credentialed as allied health/nursing practitioners who wish to continue their formal education and earn an Associate of Applied Science degree. Students may take six hours of guided electives in the program which prepares them to become Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).

DSCC's Healthcare Technician program provides students with credentials to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Patient Care Technicians (PCT).  CCMA is a multi-skilled professional and a valuable asset to physicians. They assist during physical examinations, maintain treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, answer patient questions, and obtain vital signs. Certified Clinical Medical Assistants utilize their skills in an outpatient setting such as a doctor’s office. Patient Care Technicians assist patients with activities of daily living by serving meals, changing bedding, assisting with restroom needs, measuring and monitoring vital signs, and managing food and liquid intake. PCTs, perform in an inpatient setting such as a hospital.  CCMA or PCT students will also take Electrocardiogram and Phlebotomy classes where they will be certified to perform Electrocardiograms (EKG) and Phlebotomy. EKG and Phlebotomy are prerequisites for the Healthcare Technician certification.
