TCCAA/NJCAA Regional VII Basketball Tournament Held at DSCC

DSCC hosted the TCCAA NJCAA Basketball Regional VII Tournament on Friday, Feb. 25 through Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

Dyersburg State Community College hosted the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Basketball Regional VII Tournament on Friday, Feb. 25 through Tuesday, March 1, 2022. The tournament was held at the E. H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium on the Dyersburg Campus.

Ten Tennessee community college teams competed for the TCCAA / NJCAA Region VII Championship. Teams in the tournament included Chattanooga State, Cleveland State, Columbia State, Dyersburg State, Jackson State, Motlow State, Roane State, Southwest Tennessee, Volunteer State, and Walters State.

The Roane State Community College Men’s Basketball Team was named the 2022 TCCAA Region VII Appalachian District Champions. In addition, Roane State’s Alec Kegler was named All-TCCAA Most Valuable Player. The Dyersburg State Community College Men’s Basketball Team was named 2022 TCCAA Region VII Runners-Up.

Men’s Basketball First Team All-TCCAA include Nico Ashley of Motlow State, Jamari Bostic and Malique Oates of Columbia State, James DeJesus of Southwest Tennessee, James Flippin and David Ware of Chattanooga State, Greg Gordon and Jordan Smith of Dyersburg State, Josh Jerome of Walters State, and Alec Kegler of Roane State.

Men’s Basketball Second Team All-TCCAA include Marcus Averhart, Kjuan Banks, Damontre Carlton, and Tarre’q Williams of Cleveland State, James Evans of Motlow State, Arecko Gipson, Jr. and Brandon Mason of Southwest Tennessee, Jeff Norment of Jackson State, Peyton West of Volunteer State, and Deovaunta Williams of Walters State.

Men’s Basketball All-TCCAA Special Awards included Dyersburg State’s Greg Gordon (All-TCCAA Freshman of the Year, and All-TCCAA Player of the Year), Dyersburg State’s Jordan “Turbo” Smith (Offensive Player of the Year), Motlow State’s Nico Ashley (Defensive Player of the Year), and Dyersburg State’s Chad Kline (TCCAA Coach of the Year).

The Walters State Community College Women’s Basketball Team was named the 2022 TCCAA Region VII Appalachian District Champions. In addition, Kiera Hill was named All-TCCAA Most Valuable Player. The Cleveland State Community College Women’s Basketball Team was named 2022 TCCAA Region VII Runners-Up.

Women’s Basketball First Team All-TCCAA include Tionna Baker and Gla’Mia Letcher of Chattanooga State, Kirby Brown and Catherine Hendershott of Roane State, Mya Byrd of Columbia State, Asjah Harrell of Cleveland State, Kiera Hill and Gemariona Hollingsworth-Pugh of Walters State, Iya Jones of Jackson State, and Trinity Taylor of Southwest Tennessee.

Women’s Basketball Second Team All-TCCAA include Michaela Bennefield and Emma Harig of Cleveland State, Nya Cruthers and Tia Floyd of Columbia State, Jada Johnson of Motlow State, Macy Kirby of Roane State, Quintasia Leatherwood of Dyersburg State, Kyasia Overstreet of Jackson State, Malea Robertson of Volunteer State, and Ryann Woodley of Walters State.

Women’s Basketball All-TCCAA Special Awards included Roane State’s Catherine Hendershott (Freshman of the Year), Jackson State’s Makayla Transou (Defensive Player of the Year), Walters State’s Kiera Hill (Offensive Player of the Year, and TCCAA Player of the Year) and Jasmin Coleman (TCCAA Coach of the Year).
