Students and Faculty Recognized at Honors Convocation

Four students acknowledged for graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) honored students and faculty April 20 at the College’s Annual Honors Convocation inside the E.H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium on the Dyersburg campus.

DSCC students Ashley Busch of Caruthersville, Missouri, Michael Greer and Jordan Kirk, both of Drummonds, Shannon Kelley of Brighton, Kaylee Kuykendoll of Newbern, Rebecca Ray and McKenzie Richardson, both of Covington, and Julie Rowand of Munford, were each recognized for graduating with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) and presented the Outstanding Scholastic Graduate Award.

Recognized for being named to the All-Tennessee Academic Team were Erin Delaney of Memphis, Catherine Gitchell of Friendship, Suzanne Fultz of Dyersburg and Autumn Miles of Munford.

Three incarcerated graduates from the Northwest Correctional Complex (NWCX), who were taking courses leading to an associate degree in business administration, were recognized for achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA. Those students included Michael Dotson of Dyersburg, and Grady Thomas and Johnathon Thomas, both of Tiptonville.

Dr. Karen Bowyer, president of DSCC, recommended the following faculty for promotion and/or tenure: Angela Martin of Ripley, Dr. Brigham Scallion of Bells, and Patty Sharp and Rebecca Wiley, both of Jackson.

In addition, several students were recognized for their leadership at the College and in the community for 2020-2021. They included Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) student leaders, student ambassadors, Student Government Association (SGA) student leaders, and student tutors. Awards were presented by each academic department to honor students who earned places on the dean's list.
