Student-Athletes Recognized with Virtual Celebration

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) celebrated the academic and athletic success of its baseball, basketball, soccer, softball and cheer teams for the 2019-20 academic year during a virtual prerecorded video ceremony May 1. The video can be accessed from the College’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Recognized as having the highest grade-point average (GPA) in each sport were men’s baseball player Lane Harris of Brentwood, softball player Currie McIntyre of Covington, basketball player Bryce McBride of Jackson, women’s basketball player Hanna Box of Dyersburg, soccer player Madison Luttrell of Covington and cheer team member Suzanna Fultz of Dyersburg. These students’ names will be engraved on a plaque prominently displayed in the E.H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium.

The following students were also recognized for achieving a 3.0 GPA or higher for each sport: baseball players Zachary Bondurant of Murfreesboro, Gary Campbell of Newbern, Seth Copeland of Savannah, J.C. Coach David Anderson, men’s head basketball coach and athletic director, recognized men’s basketball players Mark Edmond of Lafayette, Louisiana, Devin Pitts of Dyersburg, and Famous Jones of Henning, for being named Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) Second Team All-Conference. Bryce McBride was recognized for being named two-time TCCAA Player of the Week, TCCAA First Team All-Conference, and All-American Honorable Mention.

Coach Charles Taylor, women’s head basketball coach, recognized women’s basketball player Kira Lowery of Memphis for being named the TCCAA First Team All-Conference, TCCAA Offensive Player of the Year and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Third Team of All-American. Also recognized were Amariah Pugh of Dyersburg for being named TCCAA Second Team All-Conference and Sinetra Jones of Memphis for being named the TCCAA Defensive Player of the Year. Coach Taylor congratulated his players for placing second in the TCCAA tournament.

Coach George White, women’s head softball coach, recognized the women’s softball team for their 12-7 overall season. The softball team tied for first place overall in TCCAA Region VII for the 2019-2020 season. Coach White acknowledged several improvements to the softball program including a press box, a scoreboard sponsored by Burks Broadcasting, a backstop and safety net.

Coach Robert White, baseball head coach, recognized the men’s baseball team for their 22-7 overall season. The baseball team tied for first place overall in TCCAA Region VII for the 2019-2020 season. Coach White acknowledged improvements made to the program this past year including the new addition of turf for the baseball field.

Coach Robert Luttrell, head soccer coach, recognized women’s soccer players Lilyann Williams of Burlison and Lindsie Ralyea of Munford for being named TCCAA First Team All-Conference; Abby Gray of Selmer for being named TCCAA First Team All-Conference and Defensive Player of the Year; and Madison Luttrell of Covington for being named TCCAA First Team All-Conference and TCCAA Freshman of the Year.

During the virtual video, Dr. Karen Bowyer was recognized for being named to the 2020 TCCAA Hall of Fame. Coach David Anderson was recognized for receiving the 2020 TCCAA Coach of the Year award.
