DSCC to Host Joint Scholarship Saturday and Preview Day Oct. 1

Dyersburg, Tennessee – Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) will host a joint Scholarship Saturday and Preview Day event for incoming students Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at all DSCC locations. Potential students, including high school seniors, are encouraged to attend and begin the college application process for spring and fall 2017.

Scholarship Saturday is designed to encourage high school seniors to enroll in Tennessee Promise, a program that provides two years of free tuition at DSCC for any student graduating from a Tennessee high school in 2017. The Tennessee Promise program includes a mentoring component, as well as a last-dollar scholarship to cover tuition and fees not covered by the Pell grant, the HOPE Scholarship or Tennessee Student Assistance Award (TSAA) funds. The deadline for current high school seniors to apply for the Tennessee Promise program is Nov. 1, 2016.

Prospective students can attend this event to receive assistance with filling out the Tennessee Promise application, applying for college, completing financial aid documents and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students will be able to use the College’s computer labs to sign up online. They will also have the opportunity to obtain information regarding DSCC programs, tutoring, student life and organizations, and to take a tour of each location. Free refreshments and drinks will be available for those who attend.

The event will be held in the Student Center on the Dyersburg campus, the Jimmy Naifeh Building at the Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County, and the Computer Lab at the Gibson County Center. To register or for more information, students are encouraged to contact Margaret Jones, assistant director of Admissions, at 731-286-3327 or mjones@dscc.edu.
