Richardson Named Director of Health Sciences at the Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County

President Karen Bowyer appointed Trenna Richardson as Director of Health Sciences at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) at the Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County (JNC). Trenna has been a nursing educator at DSCC since 2010 with over 25 years of experience as a registered nurse (RN).

Richardson graduated from Texarkana Community College with an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1993. In 1995 Trenna graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington. In 2007 she graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Nursing at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. Richardson is currently working on a Doctoral Degree of Nursing Practice Educational Leadership at the American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Post University, with an anticipated graduation date of Dec. 2022.

Richardson received training certificates for Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning (CRT&L) from the Community College of Baltimore County in 2019 and 2020, a certificate in Effective Practice Framework, and a certificate in Inclusive Teaching for Equitable Learning from the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE). In 2021, she obtained a certificate in Belonging and Inclusive Teaching after completing a Lumen Circles Fellowship, and because of her outstanding work, she was invited to participate as a panelist presenter on Belonging and Inclusive Teaching at the TBR Lumen Circles Showcase in Nov. 2021. In addition, Trenna is currently working on a post master’s graduate certificate in Community College Leadership at East Tennessee State University

In 2019 and 2020, Richardson presented at the DSCC Student Leadership Retreat on Equity & Diversity. In 2020 she conducted a Cultural Awareness and Teaching breakout session

at the statewide TBR High Impact Practices (HIPs) Conference. In the last two years, Richardson has presented six Culturally Responsive Teaching workshops to train full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, staff, and administrators. She is a current member of the Achieving the Dream Core Committee and an active member of the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing

Richardson has been nominated twice for the Outstanding Faculty Member Award at DSCC and was awarded in 2020-2021. Richardson is committed to social justice and is even more committed to taking what she knows to “pay it forward” for a larger impact on our college community. 

Richardson and her husband of 27 years, Anthony, reside in Covington. She has five children, Toni, Caleb, Hannah, Mary, a stepson Anthony, and two grandchildren, Adam and AJ, from Ohio. Hannah is a Covington High School senior currently enrolled as a DSCC Dual Enrollment student, and Mary is a current full-time student and women’s basketball player at DSCC.
