Retirement Reception Planned to Honor Longtime President Dr. Karen Bowyer

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) and the DSCC Foundation will celebrate retiring president Dr. Karen Bowyer's many contributions during an open public reception Friday, Dec. 10, from 2 p.m.- 5 p.m. inside the Learning Resource Center on the Dyersburg campus.

DSCC alumni, distinguished leaders, and community members within the DSCC service area, retirees of DSCC and friends, are all encouraged to attend the reception to honor Dr. Bowyer’s legacy and her impact on our communities.

Bowyer announced earlier this May her plans to retire on Dec. 31, 2021, after 37 years of service to DSCC. As the first female and third president to lead the College, she has led DSCC through significant growth and has been instrumental in developing off-campus centers in Covington, and Trenton. Enrollment has grown by more than 100% during her tenure, peaking at 3,751 in 2011-12. In addition, Bowyer was the first female president at a postsecondary institution in Tennessee and the first female and longest-serving president in the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) system.

To honor President Karen A. Bowyer, consider donating to her scholarship fund by visiting www.dscc.edu/annualfund and designate your gift to the Karen A. Bowyer scholarship fund.  For additional information on giving options, contact Dr. Amanda Walker, vice president for institutional advancement and continuing education, at 731-286-3346.
