DSCC welcomed 27 new members into the Honor Society March 23

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) inducted 27 new members into the Alpha Epsilon Alpha (AEA) chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) March 23. The Induction Ceremony for the PTK academic honorary society was held inside the Student Center on the Dyersburg campus.

New inductees included: Brianna Asher of Gates, Andrea Baker of South Fulton, Terrie Bergstedt of Ripley, Drakan Blackstock of Ripley, Trina Bobbitt of Medina, Alexis Bradfield of Covington, Ben Click of Halls, Mary Cox of Ripley, Ashli Ford of Covington, Emma Hampton of Dyersburg, Emily Hunt of Trenton, Jennifer Johnson of Halls, Hanna Kolwyak of Dyersburg, Tyler Martin of Gleason, Gabriel McDermott of Munford, Mayleigh McDivitt of Covington, Leah Miller of Humboldt, Henlen Shelby Ozmont of Friendship, Caroline Price of Covington, Monterrious Richardson of Millington, Leon Russell of Dyer, Lauren Smith of Covington, Shania Walker of Munford, Hannah Waller of Dyersburg, Lanie Whitney of Munford, Desaree’ Williamson of Trenton and Steven Wilson of Dyersburg.

Mary Grace Simonton of Covington, chapter president, welcomed the audience and introduced Dr. Karen Bowyer, DSCC president. Dr. Bowyer recognized Simonton along with Emily Camp of Millington as they were recently chosen to serve on the All-Tennessee Academic Team.

Simonton presented the Faculty and Staff Golden Apple Awards to faculty and staff who have encouraged students to achieve the honor of becoming a PTK member. Recipients included Dr. Brigham Scallion of Bells and Karen Norfolk of Ripley.

Emily Camp, PTK vice president of fundraising, introduced Dr. Tamara Daniel, DSCC vice president for the College, as the guest speaker. The induction of new members was led by the DSCC Student Leadership Team consisting of Simonton, president, Erin Hein of Munford, vice president of service, Camp, vice president of fundraising, Dominique Wander of Munford, vice president of scholarships, Emily Kaesberg of Brighton, secretary, and Richard Edmondson of Covington, regional officer candidate.

The goal of PTK is to recognize the academic achievements of its members and to provide an opportunity for them to become actively involved in student life at DSCC. As members of the society, students should exemplify its four hallmarks: scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship. To be eligible for membership in this prestigious honor society, students must have completed 12 hours of college-level courses, be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester, and post a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. The local AEA chapter was established at DSCC in 1979.
