Patient Care Technician Track Added to Spring Semester 2022

Patient Care Technician Track to be added to the Healthcare Technician Certificate Program for Spring Semester 2022

Dyersburg State Community College plans to add the Patient Care Technician (PCT)Track to the Healthcare Technician Certificate Program for the upcoming Spring Semester 2022. This new Program will prepare certified Patient Care Technicians to care for patients in hospitals and other acute care facilities.

Students who enroll in this new track will learn the basics of anatomy, nutrition, psychology, disease processes and patient care skills. These skills include learning blood draw techniques, performing electrocardiograms (EKGs) and conducting case studies. The newly renovated laboratory in the Glover Building on the DSCC Campus in Dyersburg includes new mannequins and other new training equipment. Officials at the Dyersburg Hospital of the West TN Healthcare System are delighted to have DSCC address this workforce need.

Students may complete this track in two semesters, and be prepared to enter the workforce as a certified Patient Care Technician (PCT). This means that students who enter in January 2022 should be ready for employment by December 2022. Students will be encouraged to work as a PCT, and continue their education in order to earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree as a Healthcare Technician which will result in a salary increase.
