Mask Requirements Reinstated for Fall Semester

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) has announced that face mask requirements will be reinstated beginning Aug. 23 due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in and around its surrounding communities. This decision comes after learning that resources and facilities are stressed at local hospitals and health care facilities due to the increase in positive cases.

“DSCC’s top priority is keeping our students, faculty, staff and visitors safe as the COVID-19 pandemic continues,” stated Dr. Karen Bowyer, president of DSCC. “Information from our local health and government agencies regarding a sudden increase in COVID cases in our area has led to the decision to require face masks to help reduce the spread of the virus.”

In addition, the College will require daily health screenings before entering buildings, temperature checks, and limited entrances and exits to reduce virus transmission and exposure. Before students, faculty and staff arrive, they will be required to fill out and submit a daily COVID-19 Health Screening Questionnaire. Temperatures will be checked using a digital kiosk or handheld device each time a person enters a building. Designated entrances and exits for each building will be marked with a green entrance and red exit sign. DSCC custodial staff will continue thorough cleaning at all locations with daily protocols for disinfecting desks, frequently-touched items and equipment.
