Golf Tournament Winners Announced
The winning team of Pennington Seed and Supply claimed the traveling crystal cup for the first time during Dyersburg State Community College’s (DSCC’s) annual E.H. Lannom, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament Sept.14 at the Farms Golf Club in Dyersburg.
Twenty teams participated in the annual event led by co-directors Tommy Allmon and Patrick Williams. DSCC President Karen Bowyer served as the presidential putter throughout the day on the 18th green.
Tournament winners were recognized in two flights of play along with winners of special contests including a closest to the pin contest, a putting contest and a longest drive contest sponsored by West Tennessee Golf. A $1 million hole-in-one contest was sponsored for the third year in a row by The Farms Golf Club. Back by popular demand this year was the “Eagle Swing” in which golfers purchased a chance for a member of DSCC’s baseball or softball team to take the first swing with a bat from the No. 14 hole.
David Alexander won a free round of golf from The Farms Golf Club when he made the longest drive of the day while Mark Brooks and Kenneth Hartsfield were the closest-to-the-pin contest winners, making them both eligible to play for the $1 million hole-in-one contest. Although both made respectable drives, they each came up short in the end. In addition to this contest, the top golfer who was closest to the pin on hole No. 4 was Kenneth Hartfield, and the winner of the putting contest was Easton Lavelle, both of whom received a free round of golf sponsored by The Farms Golf Club.
The team of Pennington Seed and Supply, the overall winner of the first flight, included team members Matt Madden, Mark Madden, Steven Pennington and Jason Roberts. The Bevis team placed second and included team members Mike Bevis, Jeff Brewer, Mark Jagello and Rob Sharp. The Frazier Roofing and Sheet Metal team consisting of Don Crews, Barry Frazier, Ruben Garza and Jeff Newbill, placed third.
The Ford Construction team consisting of Kenneth Hartsfield, Charles Kelly, Calvin Lambert and John Martin took first place honors in the second flight of play. The Security Bank team including Jared Agee, Jerry Edwards, Bill Joyner and John Young, took second place, while the C&C Pharmacy team consisting of Mark Brooks, Curtis Colbert, Darren Sells and Mike Smith placed third.
Sponsors for the golf tournament included platinum sponsor Dot Foods, Inc., and silver sponsor Forcum Lannom Contractors, LLC.
Along with numerous door prizes donated by local businesses, a gas grill, donated by Lowe’s of Dyersburg, was won by Skylar Ramsey. Door prizes were donated by Applebee's, Arby's, Bart Jowers, Chick-fil-A, Cracker Barrel, Dave's On The Square, the DSCC Baseball Team, the DSCC Basketball Team, Lupo’s Italian Steakhouse, Modern Woodmen of America – Joe Wood, Sonic Drive-In – Dyersburg and Sonic Drive-In – Newbern.
