Filtz Appointed Dean of Jimmy Naifeh Center

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) President Karen Bowyer has announced the appointment of Dr. Joshua Filtz as the new dean of the Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County.

“We are very fortunate to attract Dr. Filtz to Dyersburg State Community College,” stated Dr. Bowyer. “His experience will be a huge asset as we continue to develop programs and increase enrollment at the Jimmy Naifeh Center.”

Filtz comes to DSCC from Northwest Mississippi Community College (NMCC) where he served as assistant dean since 2014. Before this, he served as evening school director at NMCC from 2012-2014; an education advisor at Graduate Memphis-College Resource Center from June to November 2012; an admissions officer at Baptist College of Health Sciences from 2011-2012; and an executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) academic advisor at Bethel University from 2009-2011.

He earned an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration from NMCC; a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Human Resources from the University of Mississippi; a Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership from Bethel University; and a Doctor of Education with an emphasis in Higher Education from the University of Mississippi.

“I appreciate the confidence that Dr. Bowyer and Dr. Reid-Bunch have placed in me and am honored to serve as the next Dean of the Jimmy Naifeh Center,” stated Filtz. “I am looking forward to meeting our faculty, staff, students, and community leaders in the coming weeks. Likewise, I am excited to build upon the solid foundation set by Dyersburg State in Tipton, Lauderdale, and the surrounding counties over the past 25 years.” 

As dean of the Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County, Filtz will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and activities conducted at the Center. In this role, he will provide leadership, direction and supervision for the staff and represent DSCC at community functions in Tipton and Lauderdale counties. Filtz will also be responsible for responding to the educational needs of the community including those of local businesses and industries.
