Faculty and Staff Recognized with Virtual Celebration

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) presented outstanding faculty and staff awards to five deserving employees during a virtual ceremony held May 3. The video was released May 3 via the College’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Each year, members of the DSCC faculty and staff are invited to submit nominations for the Outstanding Faculty and Staff Awards. The recipients are chosen by a committee of past winners that represent various college departments. Community members and representatives from local organizations serve as presenters and contribute funds to sponsor plaques and monetary awards given to recipients.

The Outstanding Faculty Award, sponsored by Bill and Mary Adcock, was presented to Dr. Christy Hamilton of Ripley, associate professor of nursing. Hamilton earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and a Master of Science degree in Nursing, and a Doctor of Nursing Education degree from Walden University. She has taught as a full-time instructor since 2012.

The Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award, sponsored by Security Bank, was presented to Janet Adair of Dyersburg, adjunct instructor of English since 2017. Adair earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from University of Tennessee at Martin and is currently working toward a Master of Arts degree in English from Arizona State University

The Ned Cherry Outstanding Maintenance Staff Member Award, sponsored by
American Paper and Twine, was presented to John Thomas of Dyersburg, custodian. Thomas has worked at DSCC for the past five years and supports the College’s overall growth and development by providing excellent customer service to faculty, staff, students and visitors on campus.

The Administrative Professional of the Year Award, sponsored by Simmons Bank, was presented to Edith Carlton of Newbern, administrative assistant II for the president of the college. Carlton has been employed at DSCC for 19 years. During this time, she has been involved in the Administrative Professional Council, Relay for Life and DSCC Annual Fund. She is member of the DSCC Alumni Association and a member of Nebo United Methodist Church. 

The Outstanding Staff Award, sponsored by First South Financial Credit Union, was presented to Mary Ricks of Dyersburg, director of institutional research. Ricks supports Dyersburg State’s overall growth and development by serving as the Achieve the Dream (ATD) Data Team Leader and Core Team member, Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Data Team Leader and Core Team and Core Team member and liaison of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
