EMT and AEMT Classes Achieve 100% Pass Rate

39 students pass state and national exams on the first try

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Advanced EMT (AEMT) students at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) received a 100% first-time pass rate on the EMT Basic State Psychomotor Exam and the AEMT National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Psychomotor Exam, respectively. The classes consisted of 14 EMT students at the College’s Dyersburg campus along with 17 EMT students and eight AEMT students from the Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County location, for a total of 39 students.

"It is obvious that our delivery of lab skills instruction and our clinical partners in the field setting are administering the quality of instruction our students need and deserve," stated Baker McCool, EMS director at DSCC. “I couldn't even begin to name the partners we have in the field setting. Our students have access to these opportunities in seven counties.”

EMT students from the Dyersburg campus class included Patricia Ashley of Dyersburg, Blake Bloxom of Obion, Alissa Bray of Martin, Taylor Burress of Union City, William Capps of Newbern, Christina Cooper of Dyersburg, Shawn Henry of Humboldt, Christopher Mackey of Trenton, Kayla Parker of Ridgely, Kaitlin Schmaltz of Dyersburg, Cynthia Shanklin of Martin, Ashley Staples of South Fulton, Bradley Walls of Maury City and Matthew Wicker of Martin.

EMT students from the Jimmy Naifeh Center class included Rebecca Ervin of Millington, Anthony Fonseca of Brighton, Krislyn Fore of Mason, Brad Fowler of Atoka, Chase Gibson of Atoka, Caitlin Jenkins of Atoka, Jessica Kothe of Millington, Elizabeth Lawrence of Covington, Aleisha Leggett of Atoka, Austin Long of Bartlett, Rose Mackey of Stanton, Daniel Moore of Brighton, Eduardo Ovante of Brighton, Tristen Paine of Memphis, Kelley Ann Rice of Covington, Matthew Rose of Covington and Carrie Ross of Lakeland.

AEMT students from the Jimmy Naifeh Center class included Andrew Abernathie of Millington, Kyle Barnes of Munford, Adam Long of Bartlett, Hannah Moore of Arlington, Brandy Pilcher of Ripley, Rusty Richardson of Dyersburg, Brent Ruffin of Munford and Brad Woodward of Munford.

"I can't recall a psychomotor test in the past 20 years with a 100% pass rate and no retests," stated Danny Parker, EMT clinical coordinator at DSCC.

Kevin Cagle, State of Tennessee Emergency Medical Services (EMS) consultant, stated, "to have a 100% pass rate on the EMT Practical shows the dedication of the students as well as the staff."

Part-time staff assisting with the success of these students included Chris Davis, James Fox, Madison Hazlewood and Ricky Warren at the Dyersburg campus; and Austin Black, Vincent Clark, Zac Cook, Lauren Kinney, Cody Lake, Clay Max, David Morgan, Shania Walker, and Harley Whitley at the Jimmy Naifeh Center.
