Dyersburg State Recognizes Graduates from WTSP and WTRC

DSCC recognized 24 incarcerated students on May 18.

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) recognized 24 incarcerated students in Henning, Tennessee, on Thursday, May 18. Twelve men from the West Tennessee State Penitentiary and twelve women from the Women’s Therapeutic Rehabilitation Center graduated with an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration from Dyersburg State Community College. These students earned this degree through the Governor’s Correctional Education Initiative (CEI), which paid for the student’s tuition, fees, and materials for all the courses.

Dyersburg State Community College is committed to providing and promoting educational opportunities to incarcerated students in Tennessee, particularly in our service area. Post-Secondary Education empowers every Tennessee incarcerated student with the opportunity to attain their educational goals and realize their academic and career potential. Post-secondary educational opportunities through DSCC currently exist in two male facilities, West Tennessee State Penitentiary (WTSP) and Northwest Correctional Facility (NWCX), and one female facility, Women’s Therapeutic Residential Center (WTRC).

As part of this initiative, DSCC works collaboratively with organizations that support equity and excellence in education. Current partnerships include the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC) Post-Secondary Education Liaison, Tennessee Higher Education Initiative (THEI), and Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC).

Through these partnerships, DSCC works to ensure a quality education is delivered and incarcerated students are enrolled in degree pathways that will provide a program where an associate degree is awarded.

Essential to student success and academic achievement, DSCC ensures current programs have advising and support service models of care that are student-centered and meet the unique needs of incarcerated students or students who have been released.
