Dyersburg State Offers Patient Care Technician Class at Dyersburg High School

DSCC will offer a Patient Care Technician class at DHS as part of the dual enrollment program.

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) will offer a Patient Care Technician (PCT) class at Dyersburg High School (DHS) as part of the dual enrollment program.

DSCC’s Healthcare Technician program provides students with credentials to become a Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT). The CPCT class will allow high school students to begin their college careers in healthcare.

Kim Yeiter, CTE director for DHS, stated, “Dyersburg High School is beyond excited to explore the many opportunities this partnership will bring to our Health Science program. Our students are very excited about the options this certification will offer upon graduation. We are very fortunate for the partnership with DSCC and the opportunities they are helping us to provide Dyersburg High School students.”

A CPCT is a multiskilled professional and a valuable asset to the healthcare industry. CPCT’s assist patients with activities of daily living, obtain vital signs, draw blood for a lab test, and assist physicians with procedures. As a CPCT, the student may continue with the program and become certified in phlebotomy and EKG. In addition, credits earned can be applied to an Associate of Applied Science degree.
