Dyersburg State Offers EMS Instructor Coordinator Course

The JNC will offer the EMS Instructor Coordinator Course in September.

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) will offer an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor Coordinator Course. The DSCC service area needs competent, quality EMS clinicians.

Nationwide there is a shortage of medical professionals. The DSCC EMS Program has been very aggressive in recruitment, retention, and community outreach over the past several years to encourage enrollment in EMS programs. The increase in enrollment with the shortage of providers nationwide presents another hurdle that needs to be addressed. Baker McCool, EMS Program Director, stated, “I contacted the State of Tennessee EMS Director Brandon Ward for a list of current Instructor Coordinators. Upon reviewing this list, I found that only 11 educators west of the Tennessee River were available, and five were already employed with DSCC.” As a result of continued discussions regarding the need for instructors, the State of TN EMS board approved an Instructor Coordinator Course put together by Columbia State Community College's Dave Cauthen and Greg Johnson, along with MTSU's Randy White. The course is half the cost to the future educator and features skills and didactic portions of the content. Unlike national courses with large enrollments, this course is limited in number to ensure the students receive the best experience possible. Dyersburg State Community College is the first to host this class in the West Tennessee region.

The course will be offered at the Jimmy Naifeh Center in Covington, TN, on September 16, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enrollment will be limited to the first 16 who register.
