DSCC Plans 50th Anniversary Gala

Alumnus and Nashville recording artist and singer/songwriter Steven Whitson to provide special entertainment

DSCC will host its 50th Anniversary Gala Friday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 p.m. inside the E.H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium on the Dyersburg campus. DSCC Alumnus Steven Whitson will perform musical entertainment alongside a night of reminiscing over the past 50 years. Guests will also enjoy a catered dinner, dancing and a silent auction to benefit the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

Nashville recording artist and singer/songwriter Steven Whitson, a 2003 music graduate of DSCC, will celebrate the College’s milestone anniversary with a nod to songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Whitson was born and raised in the small town of Trimble, Tennessee. His mother says Steven started singing at age three in church with the hymnal turned upside down and has been singing ever since. Whitson began writing and recording his own music when he was just 16. Subsequent projects have resulted in a collection of 14 independent CD's. He has opened for Rascal Flatts, Craig Morgan, Marty Stuart and Aaron Tippin; just to name a few. In the fall of 2012, Whitson made his television debut on the "Marie Osmond Show," on the Hallmark Channel. Steven is often asked the question, "When are you going to 'make it'?" He says he has already "made it," because he is happy and able to make a living doing what he loves to do. Whitson attributes his success to God, the loving support of his wife Jennifer, his parents Ricky and Kathy Whitson, and to his loyal fans called the "Believers."
