DSCC Alumni Board Kicks Off 2023-24 Term

Jared Anderson was recognized as the Fall 2023 Outstanding Alumnus at the Annual Alumni Dinner.

Dyersburg State Community College’s (DSCC) Alumni Association hosted its Annual Fall Dinner Meeting and Silent Auction on Thursday, September 14. Approximately 30 Alumni Association board members, alumni, and their guests enjoyed a catered meal on the Katie Cottrell Winchester Terrace of the Dyersburg campus during the picturesque fall evening.

Each year, DSCC presents the Outstanding Alumni Award to nominated individuals who have excelled in their field, given back to the community and served as positive role models. Alumni Affairs Liaison Constance Clay recognized Jared Anderson as the Fall 2023 Outstanding Alumnus.

Mr. Jared Anderson graduated from Dyersburg State with an Associate of Science in General Studies in May 2016. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2020.

Mr. Anderson began his career working at Toyota Motor North American in Jackson, TN, as a summer engineering intern in the summers of 2018 and 2019. He is a civil engineer with the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Caruthersville, MO. While working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, his accomplishments have earned him the Commander’s Coin of Excellence for his hard work and dedication to multiple construction contracts, which the Caruthersville Area Office administers. In September 2023, he was presented an On-the-Sport Award from the Memphis District Chief of Contracting as an appreciation for his hard work and dedicated support during the 2023 fiscal year.

While at DSCC, Jared played baseball as an outfielder and received the highest grade point average in 2014-2015 & 2015-2016. He was a member of the 2016 Tennessee Community College Athletic Association.

“I enjoyed the relationships I built with people from West Tennessee and all over. I appreciate the opportunities that DSCC offers to everyone who walks on campus. Whether it be athletics, academics, or anything else, DSCC will surely help you get from where you are to where you want to be,” stated Jared.

Jared and his wife, Anna, reside in Finley and are expecting their first baby boy in December.

A silent auction capped off the night’s event, raising over $700 for the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
