Dr. Sharron Burnett Appointed VP for Finance

Burnett brings a wealth of experience in areas such as budgeting, SACSCOC accreditation and administrative services.

President Karen Bowyer has announced the appointment of Dr. Sharron Burnett as the new vice president for finance and administrative services at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC).

Dr. Burnett has served institutions in Alabama, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. She returns to Tennessee after serving in Alabama as executive vice president and chief financial officer at Tuskegee University. Before this position, Dr. Burnett served in capacities at Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma, as vice president for fiscal and administrative affairs and interim vice president of advancement and development. She has provided executive oversight of accounting, budgeting, human resources, business office services, physical plant services, bookstore, student housing, sponsored programs, advancement, development and alumni affairs. The majority of her career in higher education was spent serving at Lane College. Her last role at Lane College was executive vice president, where she provided administrative and operational oversight on behalf of the president; provided information to enhance administrative decision-making; responded to college regulatory requirements; and assisted and advised the president with respect to collegewide concerns affecting planning, organization, academic support functions and accreditation.

Dr. Burnett earned a public accountant certification from the State of Tennessee; a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an Accounting Concentration from Lane College; a Master of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Martin; and a Doctorate of Education degree from the University of Memphis.

Over the years, she has served on several college standing committees including the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) steering committee and chair of the advisory council; SACSCOC committee on institutional capacity; SACSCOC committee on institutional mission and governance; chair of the SACSCOC committee on financial and fiscal resources; quality enhancement plan (QEP) leadership team; board committee on financial affairs; and a SACSCOC evaluator.
