Don Myers Appointed VP of IA and Continuing Education

Myers Named VP
Responsibilities to include overseeing institutional effectiveness, accreditation and fundraising initiatives.

Dr. Karen Bowyer, president of Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC), has announced the appointment of Don Myers as the new vice president of institutional advancement and continuing education.

“With over 20 years of experience in higher education, we are fortunate to attract Don to this position to help us enhance and grow our development efforts,” stated Dr. Bowyer. “His experience with regional accreditation along with his institutional research and strategic planning skills will benefit DSCC’s core mission.”

Myers comes to DSCC from sister institution Southwest Tennessee Community College (STCC) in Memphis, Tennessee. During his time at STCC, he served as research analyst, associate director and most recently director in the department of engineering since 2007. He has taught as an adjunct instructor for architecture and developmental studies and mathematics since 2010; served as research technician of academic and student affairs from 2003 to 2007; served as the director of the academic resource center (ARC) from 2001 to 2003; served as the DUCKS tutor coordinator and professional tutor of the ARC from 1998 to 2001; and served as the DUCKS Scholarship student tutor of the ARC from 1996 to 1998. In these roles, he acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience in preparing institutional reports for state and national reporting agencies; budgeting and forecast planning; assisting with accreditations; assisting with grant writing and development; and creating academic curriculums.

Myers earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Liberal Arts from Lakewood Community College (now Century College) in 1996; an Associate of Applied Science degree in Civil/Construction Engineering Technology from State Technical Institute at Memphis (now STCC) in 1998; an Associate of Applied Science degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from State Technical Institute at Memphis (now STCC) in 1999; an Associate of Applied Science degree in Geographic Information Systems from State Technical Institute at Memphis (now STCC) in 2000; a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree in Technical/Mathematical Education and Tutorial Services from the University of Memphis – University College in 2003; and a Master of Science degree in Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Memphis – College of Education in 2006.

As the new vice president of institutional advancement and continuing education, Myers will be responsible for overseeing institutional research, public information, alumni relations and continuing education. He will assist the president of the College with the DSCC Foundation Board, grant development, institutional effectiveness, strategic planning, regional accreditation, and fundraising initiatives for the College’s Annual Fund Campaign.
