Deason has been a nurse for the past 19 years and has served the community proudly at West Tennessee Healthcare - Dyersburg, the local community hospital. Deason said that he is looking forward to growing the program to help staff clinics, hospitals and urgent care officers in Dyer County and the surrounding counties. He has a vast amount of medical experience in clinical settings which made him a perfect fit for this position.

Deason has certifications in the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Phlebotomy and Electrocardiogram.

The Healthcare Technician certificate program consists of certification for Clinical Medical, Assistants, Phlebotomy Technicians and Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technicians. All certification programs are offered at DSCC Dyersburg and Covington locations. The Healthcare Technician program certification can also be applied to the Health Sciences Associate of Applied Science degree for students to expand their educational experience.

In spring 2022, DSCC will be adding the new Patient Care Technician (PCT) program to its health care technician certification. Students will be able to choose between a path in inpatient hospital setting or outpatient setting in a medical office. The program will be beneficial to the health care community. Hospital and long-term care facilities will be able to acquire industry-certified personnel via the applicable National Health Career Association and work ready.

DSCC has spent approximately $65,000 on new equipment and on renovating classrooms to make new lab space for this program. Student will have hands-on learning experiences simulating actual patient contact and care. Once students meet requirements in the lab setting they will be able to progress to the clinical setting where they will have patient contact. After completing the program, students will be prepared to enter the workforce or pursue the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree while working in their field.
