City of Newbern’s Golf Team Takes Home DSCC’s College Cup

Eighteen teams competed in the annual event.

The City of Newbern’s team claimed the traveling crystal cup during the Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) annual Ed Lannom, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament on Oct. 6 at the Lenox Event and Golf Company in Dyersburg.

Eighteen teams competed in the annual event led by golf tournament director John Tucker, Regional President of First Citizens National Bank.

The platinum sponsors were Dot Foods, Dr. Buck Tarpley, Rose Construction, and Faith Deliverance Apostolic Church, Inc. Special recognition goes out to our “friends of the college” sponsors, such as Anderson Printing & Office Products for sponsoring the Longest Drive Contest; Burks Beverage and Broadcasting for providing drinks; and Lenox Event and Golf Company for sponsoring the Putting Contest.

Tournament winners were recognized in two flights of play and winners of special contests, including a closest to the pin contest and the longest drive contest. In addition, Dyersburg State Community College sponsored a $1 million hole-in-one contest.

The City of Newbern team, the overall winner of the first flight, included team members Jason Roberts, Steven Pennington, Ryan Gammons, and Josh Kraus. Team Mangrum, consisting of Michael Mangrum, Matt Madden, Steve Caldwell, and Brian Lee, placed second. White & Associates placed third and included team members Larry White, Martin Caton, Mike Bernard, and Scott Aris.

Alexander Thompson Arnold (ATA) team consisting of Kevin Howell, Tim Howell, Mark Downing, and Jeff Downing took first-place honors in the second flight of play. The Brew Crew team took second place, including David Lewis, Nick Newell, Alex Lewis, and Eric Berryman. The Security Bank team consisting of John Young, Addison Sonsone, Jack Bell, and Cane Johnson came in third.

Joe Cagle was the winner of the longest-drive contest. Matt Madden was the closest-to-the-pin contest winner, making him eligible to play for the $1 million hole-in-one contest.

DSCC concluded the tournament with a drawing for the early bird registration prize. Jason Roberts won the gas grill donated by Lowe’s of Dyersburg. “We would like to extend a special thanks to all sponsors, participants, and volunteers for your continued support of Dyersburg State,” said Dr. Amanda Walker, Vice President of External Affairs.
