DSCC will host the Dyersburg Choral Society in its annual Christmas concert on Thursday, December 8, at 7:30 p.m.

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) will host the Dyersburg Choral Society in its annual Christmas concert on Thursday, December 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 2280 Parr Avenue in Dyersburg. Admission to the concert is free. The 43-member group includes local community members and choral students from DSCC. The Dyersburg Choral Society is under the direction of Floyd Speck, with pianist Carolyn Burnett accompanying.

The Choral Society will be joined by the Dyersburg State Choir, Vox Civitas. The group consists of 37 students that frequently perform for the College at various events. The group is under the direction of Thomas Frost, with Sarah Jean as accompanist.

The musically diverse concert features a mix of sacred and secular Christmas and holiday numbers, new and old, some with a new twist that will feature percussion provided by Sarah Jean and Billy Greer and handbells played by Mindy Davis.

The Dyersburg Choir, Vox Civitas, is open to Dyersburg State students by audition and counts for DSCC credit. Students interested should contact Thomas Frost, Instructor of Music, at 731-286-3261.

Membership in the Dyersburg Choral Society is open to everyone, with no auditions required. The only requirement is that you have a sincere desire to sing and attend rehearsals regularly. Members of the Choral Society pay a membership fee each semester.

This concert is made possible by funding from the Arts Build Communities (ABC) grant program in coordination with the Tennessee Arts Commission. The ABC grant supports art projects that broaden access to art experiences, address community quality of life issues through the arts, or enhance the sustainability of asset-based cultural enterprises.
