DSCC celebrates successful 2017-18 season.

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) celebrated the academic and athletic success of its basketball and cheer teams for the 2017-18 academic year April 25 inside the Student Center on the Dyersburg campus.

Student-athletes were recognized in front of family and friends, along with DSCC faculty and staff. Recognized as having the highest grade-point average (GPA) in each sport were men’s basketball player Myron McKinney of Halls, women’s basketball player Bionka Massie of Memphis and cheer team member Kyleah Epps of Halls. These players’ names will be engraved on a plaque prominently displayed in the E.H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium.

The following students were honored for achieving a 3.0 GPA or higher: men’s basketball players Darryl Houston and Aaron King, both of Birmingham, Alabama, Isaiah Moses and Julius Person, both of Halls, Stacey Tindall of Clarksville, cheer team members Brittany Dysart of Union City, Staci Johnson of Dyersburg and Kiara Roberson of Union City.

Coach Charles Taylor recognized women’s basketball players Kiante Butts and Eryn Foster, both of Memphis, for being named First Team Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) All-Conference and Oreona Brown of Cordova for being named Second Team TCCAA All-Conference.

Coach Alan Barnett presented men’s basketball awards to the following student-athletes:

  • Demarrion Armour of Somerville – Most Improved
  • Aaron King of Birmingham, Alabama -  Leading Scorer and Leading Rebounder
  • Myron McKinney of Halls – Best Free Throw Percentage and Second Leading Scorer
  • Julius Person of Halls – Leader in Steals and Assist
  • Stacey Tindall of Clarksville – Most Shots Blocked and Most Charges Taken
  • Samuel Ward of Memphis – Best 3-Point Field Goal Percentage and Best 2-Point Field Goal Percentage
  • Donovan Wilson of Memphis – Sportsmanship

Men’s basketball player Myron McKinney was also recognized for being named to the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) All-Conference Team.

Coach Kate Thompson presented DSCC’s Dean of Student Services Spirit Award for Sportsmanship, Academics and Campus Service to cheer team member Lania Theus of Halls.
