Anderson Named Dean

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) President Karen Bowyer has appointed Dennis Anderson as dean of career, technical and distance education. Anderson has served as interim dean since March 8, 2021.

“It is a pleasure to promote Dennis Anderson to this position as Dean,” stated Dr. Bowyer. “The experience and ability that Dennis Anderson brings to this position will allow DSCC to build on the good work of Julie Frazier who retired as Dean in May 2021. Dennis has taught courses in this division and has helped redesign the online courses in a major effort to improve the delivery of online courses at DSCC. Given the demand for graduates from programs in this Division and our continuing efforts to improve, I expect enrollment to increase under the leadership of Mr. Anderson.”

Anderson has a long history with DSCC. He began his career with the DSCC Northwest Tennessee Workforce Board from 2003 to 2007 as an information technology systems administrator and from 2007 to 2008 as a webmaster and network specialist at DSCC. In 2008, he served as the distance education coordinator and instructional design specialist at DSCC until May 2012, when he was named DSCC director of distance education and instructional development. He served in this position through March 2021, when he was named interim dean of business, technology and allied health. He has also served as an adjunct instructor for computer information technology courses at DSCC since 2007.

Anderson earned an Associate of Science degree in Computer Science from DSCC in 2002; a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree in Information Technology from The University of Memphis in 2008; and a Master of Science degree in Information Technology Management from Western Governors University in 2016. In addition, he has earned certifications in CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Server+, I-Net+, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), and Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA).

As dean of career, technical and distance education, Anderson will work with discipline coordinators to supervise, evaluate and advocate for division faculty and staff. In addition, he will review and recommend needed curriculum changes to the appropriate governing bodies; oversee division budgets; provide supervision to the Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA) program; assist with grant responsibilities; and work with discipline-specific coordinators, faculty, the Office of Admissions and Records, and area high schools in offering dual enrollment and dual credit courses at high schools.
