The 16th Annual Memorial Scholarship and Honor Celebration to benefit the Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) Ida Mae Theus-Mays Memorial Scholarship Fund has been set for Saturday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m., at the DoubleTree Hotel in Jackson, Tennessee.

This annual event celebrates the memory of Ida Mae Theus-Mays, a devout believer and supporter of education and the founder of Faith Deliverance Apostolic Church. The Ida Mae Theus-Mays Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to provide an education for second-year full-time students at DSCC. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must have and maintain a minimum 2.5 grade-point average, be active in student life activities at DSCC, and an active member of a Christian-centered church. The trustees of Faith Deliverance Apostolic Church make the selection in coordination with DSCC financial aid guidelines.

Dr. Robin Gadsden-Dupree, Training and Technical Assistance Services Department Instructor at Western Kentucky University, will serve as the guest speaker during the event. Dr. Gadsden-Dupree combines her passion for helping people and communities in her professional and personal life. Since 1991, she has worked for Western Kentucky University, Training and Technical Assistance Services Department in the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Gadsden-Dupree travels across the country providing training and technical assistance to Head Start programs, school systems and community action agencies in the areas of parent and community engagement. She has developed several publications, manuals and materials widely used by Head Start programs across the country and has provided startup training and support to Step-by-Step preschool programs in South Africa. Dr. Gadsden-Dupree has served as a preschool teacher, Head Start director and college adjunct professor at Morgan State University; college campus child care director at LaGuardia Community College, and a day care administrator. She earned a bachelor’s degree from York College of the City University of New York, a master’s degree from Queens College of the City University of New York, and a doctorate in Organizational Leadership and Higher Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

The cost to attend is $45 per person in advance and $50 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the DSCC Business Office inside the E.B. Eller Administration Building on the Dyersburg campus. Group pricing is available by contacting Emma Reynolds at 731-325-5262.
